WeatherBug Reaches 10 Million-Registered Users

Gaithersburg, MD  WeatherBug Reaches 10 Million-Registered Users

Gaithersburg, MD, May 8, 2002 - WeatherBug (www.weatherbug.com), a free weather software application that provides a constant stream of real-time neighborhood weather conditions, severe weather warnings and more to PC users' desktops, today capped off two years of rapid growth, reaching 10 million registered users. AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc., which owns and operates the advertising-supported product and the underlying network of weather monitoring stations that powers it, also said that WeatherBug is currently adding approximately a million new users each month.

"We have achieved this milestone so quickly because our users share the WeatherBug with friends and family. People appreciate that we are the only source for live, neighborhood conditions," said Andy Jedynak, Vice President, Business Development for AWS. "Also, many tell us that the severe weather alerts they receive through the WeatherBug have saved lives and property. It's an important, valuable part of the PC desktop experience, and a highly relevant tool in people's lives. We are proud to provide this public service."

Launched in May 2000, WeatherBug is unique from any other source of online weather information. WeatherBug provides users with extremely accurate conditions that come directly from an AWS weather reporting station that is in many cases just a few miles away. The AWS network has more than 5,000 individual weather stations and is now the largest in the world- more than five times the size of any other.

WeatherBug features an easy to use digital dashboard that at a glance provides seven-day forecasts, live camera images, local Doppler radar, as well as visual/audible alerts when the National Weather Service issues a severe weather bulletin. The WeatherBug application is always live, and sits resident as a temperature icon on the Windows taskbar. AWS also offers a Pro version for $19.95 per year that has additional features and is free from any advertising.

The WeatherBug application has become a popular advertising platform for major corporate marketers, thanks to its growing user base and two innovative programs. Sponsor Select™ gives consumers the power to select the ads they want to see while giving advertisers access to qualified leads. BrandWrap™ raises advertiser awareness by seamlessly integrating the sponsor's graphics and messages with the weather content in the user interface.
