Little Rock Launches AWS WeatherNet Program,
Secures Entergy as Sponsor
Gaithersburg,
MD, February 26, 2002 - AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc., which owns
and operates the largest weather network in the world, today announced the
recent signing of KARK-TV (News 4) Little Rock, Arkansas to its WeatherNet
program.
Under the terms of the agreement, News 4 will incorporate into its
broadcast real-time weather data from four new AWS weather stations
recently donated to Little Rock schools. Schools will be able to access
real-time weather data locally, nationally and internationally through the AWS
school weather network. News 4 now has a total of ten weather
stations installed in the Little Rock area.
In addition, News 4 announced that it has signed Entergy, a large energy
and utility company headquartered in Louisiana, as the official sponsor for the
program and will work directly with News 4 to address questions from the public
concerning weather and energy and how it affects the very heart of the
community.
“WeatherNet, in partnership with Entergy, gives KARK an awesome
opportunity to provide more accurate and local weather conditions in
neighborhoods that may not have been highlighted prior to the program. This
technology, combined with the educational materials of WeatherNet
Classroom, will also enhance scientific education at local schools for a
long time to come,” said News 4 Chief Meteorologist Brett Cummins. “We are
excited to be the pathway for excellence with this program in Arkansas.”
