WeatherBug Surpasses Seven Million Registered Users
AWS' Industry Leading Streaming Weather Service Grows 600% in 2001
Gaithersburg, MD, February 4, 2002 - AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc., which owns and operates the largest weather network in the world, announced today that WeatherBug, its free, real-time streaming weather software application, now has more than seven million registered users. WeatherBug (www.weatherbug.com), which debuted in May 2000 and surpassed one million users later that year, grew by 600% in 2001.
WeatherBug is unique from any other source of online weather information. It streams live local conditions from the AWS' network of more than 5,000 individual weather stations directly to users' PCs. Launched in 1993, this real-time weather network has grown to become more than five times the size of any other, providing users with highly accurate local conditions.
"No other online resource delivers what we do - real-time streaming local weather data. The density of the AWS network allows WeatherBug users to get the most relevant weather information available directly from their neighborhood. Seven million WeatherBug users can't be wrong," said Bob Marshall, President and CEO, AWS Convergence Technologies. "We are proud to have reached this milestone so quickly. It demonstrates that we have developed high-value content and an advanced delivery mechanism for providing what must always be timely information."
WeatherBug features an easy to use digital dashboard that at a glance provides four-day forecasts, live camera images, local Doppler radar, as well as visual/audible alerts when the National Weather Service issues a severe weather bulletin. The WeatherBug application is always live, and sits resident as a temperature icon on the Windows taskbar.
