Washington, DC -
In today's weekly "The Net, by the numbers" column, USA Today published a study by Nielsen/Net Ratings ranking the web's 10 stickiest sites.
WeatherBug.com was ranked sixth overall, with a daily average visit time of 2 hours, 50 minutes for home users. Only nine sites on the entire Internet
averaged over two hours per day.
Sticky sites manage to retain the user's attention for a longer period of time than most and consistently
bring visitors back to their site. In comparison, all America Online (AOL) sites combined, while ranking number
one in overall visitors, average only 33 minutes per visit. The Internet industry standard is slightly over 30
minutes per day. Therefore, a typical visitor to WeatherBug.com stays five times longer than at a typical web site.
WeatherBug, the web's only source for LIVE, neighborhood weather information and personal forecasts, is a
free download from
weatherbug.com. When connected to the Internet, WeatherBug displays the current temperature from the
closest WeatherNet site clearly, but unobtrusively, in the WindowsTM System Tray - turning the task bar
into a "weatherbar". The full-screen display provides instant access to detailed weather conditions,
local forecasts, web cams, radar, storm alerts, pollen counts and more. It is the ultimate desktop weather window.
WeatherBug is a component of AWS Convergence Technologies' exclusive WeatherNet Program which boasts the world's largest real-time weather
network. This network is more than three times larger that the National Weather Service reporting network which all other content
providers use for current conditions. AWS partners with over 100 market-exclusive television stations nationwide to provide innovative
newsgathering solutions for local weather, sports and news coverage, enabling broadcasters to differentiate themselves from their
competition while extending their brands online, to wireless devices and into schools.
Nielsen has been the leading source for measuring television viewing audiences for over 50 years. Nielsen//Net Ratings,
have joined forces to provide a similar service for Internet web sites. They collect real-time data from more than 65,000
panel members in the United States. This panel is the largest representative media research sample of Internet users
in the industry.
