Gaithersburg, MD - AWS, Inc.
is pleased to announce that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) in Northern Virginia has signed a district license for AWS software. Fairfax will integrate AWS AirWatch Systems, Software and Curriculum into more than 200 schools.
The AWS AirWatch system is a fully automated weather observation station that measures and records temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, precipitation, light and barometric pressure. AirWatch Interactive software allows real time access via the Internet to weather conditions from more than 2,000 schools participating in AWS' exclusive Worldwide School Weather Network. Comprehensive K-12 interdisciplinary lessons allow teachers to integrate the system and software into math, science and geography curriculum.
"The AWS weather system, software and curriculum have evolved into a powerful learning tool that fits naturally into all grade levels and across our curriculum. AWS is a key component of our strategy to bring relevant, real world technology applications into our classrooms", says Mr. Jack Greene, Science Supervisor, FCPS.
According to Mr. Bill Booz, Web Services Specialist for FCPS, "The AWS School Weather Network is a perfect application of our new district wide area network. AWS takes our students beyond just surfing the web with an exciting and practical use of Internet Information Technology. We now have the ability to feature real time local weather conditions on our school and district web pages, making them a resource for parents and our local community."
Automated Weather Source introduced the Worldwide School Weather Network™ in 1993, linking schools, local broadcast television stations and communities. "The AirWatch System and Worldwide School Weather Network are being recognized as pioneering and effective classroom learning tools that truly excite and motivate students, teachers and local communities. We are extremely pleased to expand our relationship with one of the leading schools systems in the country", says Mr. Bob Marshall, President of AWS.
Real time weather from FCPS schools can be seen locally as 4-WINDS on NBC4 TV in Washington DC and on the web at http://aws.com/nbc/wrc/.
