KXAN Launches Live WeatherNet Online With 50,000+ Page Views Per Day

Gaithersburg, MD - AWS, Inc.  is pleased to announce that KXAN-TV in Austin has launched Live WeatherNet Online. A first in the Austin market, KXAN is now featuring live, local weather information from more than 50 AWS AirWatch weather stations located in communities throughout the DMA. Daily page views to the KXAN Live WeatherNet site, http://www.kxan.com, now exceed 50,000 per day.

"Launching our Live WeatherNet online has been a tremendous extension of our WeatherNet program. We have been absolutely thrilled with the response from the community, and just amazed by the web page traffic. Between our live doppler radar and our Live WeatherNet, KXAN is THE source for live, local weather in Austin, both on-air and on the web.," said Jane Wallace, General Manager at KXAN, "We secured a second Live WeatherNet sponsor specifically for our web page. Both Motorola and AES Technology have been extremely pleased with the program. Live WeatherNet is a WIN-WIN for all participants, and clearly differentiates KXAN on-air and on the web."

According to Alan Cohen, Chief Engineer at KXAN, "AWS' Internet technology is clearly leading edge and the service is superb. Our on-air and Internet looks are seamless, and we have actually taken our live web displays to air during the news. AWS is constantly updating our Live WeatherNet pages, and providing us with critical web page traffic reports in real time."

Automated Weather Source introduced the WeatherNet concept in 1993, installing networks of real time weather reporting stations in local DMA's. AWS has WeatherNet systems installed 104 TV broadcast markets, "The importance of live, local weather on-air and on the web have never been greater. AWS' WeatherNet online service is being recognized as unique content that drives web pages traffic, leading naturally to new sponsorship and revenue generating opportunities on the web", said Bob Marshall, President of AWS.
