WYTV-TV Joins the WeatherBug Network,
Will Provide Live, Neighborhood Weather to Youngstown
Gaithersburg,
MD, (July 9, 2004) - AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc., which owns
and operates the largest weather network in the world, today announced the recent
signing of News Channel 33 in Youngstown, Ohio to its WeatherBug Network.
Under the terms of the agreement, WYTV will
incorporate into its broadcast real-time weather data from 8 new
WeatherBug Network weather stations and 6 new motion
cameras that they will donate to the community. Schools will be able to access
real-time weather data locally, nationally and internationally through the
online teaching tool WeatherBug Achieve.
"The WeatherBug Network will bring our viewers
a more accurate, highly localized weathercast due to the live weather stations being
installed in the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys.
On top of that, the hands-on WeatherBug Achieve program for area schools and
the online component give something back to the community. All of this shows that this is truly a
win-win program for all involved," said Pat
Livingston, News Director at WYTV.
Viewers will also be able to access live, local weather
conditions and forecasts through WYTV WeatherBug on the desktop, a free software application that
streams real-time, neighborhood weather data, severe weather warnings,
emergency alerts, forecasts and more, direct to PC users’ desktops.
WYTV WeatherBug is unique when compared to any
other source of online weather information because of its access to a network
of 7,000 weather tracking stations, based at schools locally and nationwide.
This network enables WYTV WeatherBug to provide users with extremely accurate,
live conditions that stream directly from a weather tracking station that is in
many cases in their neighborhood. This highly granular weather information is
not available from any other weather source.
