NBC 7/39 is building a local, Neighborhood Weather Network by placing AirWatch weather stations at schools and learning facilities throughout the San Diego DMA. NBC 7/39 brought high visibility to this market exclusive concept by debuting live, local weather on the air and was successful in attracting Pacific Bell as their new corporate partner in education. Heidi Gantwerk, NBC 7/39 Director of Community Affairs, says "NBC 7/39 is thrilled to have Pacific Bell, a tremendous supporter of education, partner with us to bring this innovative program to the San Diego area. Never before has there been more focus on education, particularly concerning technology in schools."

Through the power of the Internet, NBC 7/39 viewers can find the current weather conditions for San Diego and beyond, as well as sign their schools up to participate in the WeatherNet program. "The response to date from area schools has been incredible, and we only expect it grow as our network expands," Gantwerk adds.

Joe Lizura, NBC 7/39 Chief Meteorologist and San Diego's only AMS Meteorologist, uses the Neighborhood WeatherNet to further his involvement in the community. Frequently viewers see "Joe on the Go" at area schools teaching students about weather.
