Gaithersburg, MD
Baltimore, MD July 7, 2003 -- AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc., which owns and operates the world's largest weather network, today announced that WMAR-TV (ABC/Channel 2) in Baltimore, MD has joined its WeatherNet Program.
Under this exclusive agreement, the Baltimore ABC affiliate joined AWS' WeatherNet program under the name Storm Center WeatherNet. The WMAR Storm Center WeatherNet greatly enhances the television station's daily weather coverage with real-time data and live camera images from around the region. The station will utilize WeatherNet Zoom, a unique on-air application that not only allows meteorologists to show live weather data and camera images of the area, but will also enable them to take viewers closer and more in-depth into the weather conditions than ever before.
"The Storm Center WeatherNet brings our viewers a more accurate, highly localized weathercast due to more than 600 live weather stations in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. On top of that, the hands-on education program for area schools and online component give something back to the Baltimore community. All of this shows that this is truly a win-win program for all involved," said WMAR station manager Michael Draman.
WMAR Storm Center WeatherNet will install 18 new weather stations around the Baltimore region. WMAR will set up three new weather stations in the area this year, eight in 2004, and seven installations in 2005.
Each WMAR real-time weather station is also equipped with technology that gives Baltimore area schools and residents access to real-time conditions around the clock online both through WMAR's Web site (http://www.wmar.com) and a custom version of the WeatherBug downloadable PC software.
