Gaithersburg, MD - AWS, Inc.
is pleased to announce the rapid expansion of the KSN WeatherLab School Network in the Wichita area. Dave Freeman, Chief Meteorologist at KSN, first initiated the network in 1994, and donated 20 AirWatch weather stations to area schools during the next several years. Today, over 44 additional schools have realized the educational math and science benefits of being a WeatherLab partner and have purchased weather stations on their own; growing the network to 64 sites in just three years.
The KSN Storm Team promotes WeatherLab participation through such programs as a bi-monthly curriculum newsletter sent to area educators as well as occasional "live" broadcasts shot on location during school visits by the KSN weather team.
"We are extremely committed to in-school activities, and so the tie-in with AWS was a natural. The quality of the equipment, the level of customer support, and the educational software make for a great partnership," says Dave Freeman.
KSN local corporate sponsors of the WeatherLab are extremely happy as well. They recognize the WeatherLab program as a community service with high visibility. KSN has developed a unique "weather ticker" display. High and low temperature readings as well as precipitation data from each school site are displayed on a ticker at the bottom of every weather broadcast.
Automated Weather Source introduced the Worldwide School Weather Network concept in 1993, installing networks of real time weather reporting stations in local DMA's across the country. AWS has WeatherNet systems installed in 104 TV broadcast markets.
