WeatherBug (http://www.weatherbug.com) is a free desktop weather software application that streams live neighborhood weather conditions, severe weather warnings, emergency alerts, forecasts and more directly to PC users' desktops. It is owned and operated by AWS Convergence Technologies, which also runs the underlying nationwide network of 6,000 weather stations that powers WeatherBug.

In addition, the September comScore Media Metrix data revealed that:

  • In a little less than two years, WeatherBug has become the 21st largest property on the Internet and the third largest online news/information entity
  • WeatherBug is consistently one of the 'stickiest' properties on the Web (days visited per month)
  • More than 5.5 million people use the application on any given day
  • WeatherBug users spend an average 97 minutes of usage time per month using the product. This is higher than any other news and information site, including The Weather Channel (30.3 minutes).

"We have become the new standard for online weather information because we are the only source that carries its own weather data, which is more localized than any other. We have also developed an intuitive delivery mechanism that sits on users desktops and is easy to use, and we have relentlessly focused on innovating our service," said Andy Jedynak, WeatherBug's Vice-President/General Manager.

WeatherBug is highly unique when compared to any other source of online weather information. It provides users with extremely accurate, live conditions that come directly from an AWS weather reporting station that is in many cases in their neighborhood. This highly localized weather information is not available from any other weather source. WeatherBug features an easy to use digital dashboard that provides five-day forecasts, live camera images with a time-lapse feature, and local Doppler radar. It also provides visual/audible alerts when there are National Weather Service weather bulletins and other local civil emergencies. The WeatherBug application is always live, and sits resident as a temperature icon on the Windows taskbar. A premium version of the product, WeatherBug Pro, is available for purchase at weatherbug.com. WeatherBug Pro, which costs $19.95 per year and has attracted more than 43,000 paid subscribers, is an advertising-free product that comes with an array of value-added features.
