Gaithersburg, MD, September 24, 2002 – AWS Convergence Technologies, which owns and operates the largest network of weather stations in the world, today highlighted two new appointments to its management team. The new positions will be central to the company’s strategy to build innovative new weather forecasting tools and applications that rely solely on AWS data.
Meteorologist Dr. Jan F. Dutton has joined the company as Director of Weather Services. Previously Dr. Dutton was president and co-founder of Weather Ventures Ltd., a Charlottesville, Virginia company that provides unique insight and information to the weather risk market. He is now charged with leading the development of weather forecast and application products for the AWS weather network. This includes the development of advanced forecast applications designed for specific commercial and governmental uses, and the design and implementation of weather-based decision support tools.

At Weather Ventures, Dr. Dutton led the development of WxDxDecisions, a web-based application that permits subscribers to quantify the effects of climate forecasts on weather derivative pricing and to monitor weather derivatives in real time. Dr. Dutton received both a PhD in meteorology and an MBA from Penn State University.
AWS also announced that it has named Mr. Brad Lemen to the position of Director of Network Operations. In this role Mr. Lemen will oversee AWS' growing network of more than 6,000 weather stations and cameras. He will apply his engineering, process and total quality management (TQM) background to ensure the continued high quality and availability of data from the network. Prior to joining AWS, Mr. Lemen was a Senior Engineer at RWD Technologies, Inc.
